Page 1 of 3 Antalya The Turkish Riviera is the tourism capital of Turkey. The region,
bathed in sunshine for 300 days of the year, is a paradise for
sunbathing, swimming, and sports activities like windsurfing, water
skiing, sailing, mountain climbing horseriding and golf.
If you come to Antalya in March or April, you can ski in the
mornings and swim in the warm waters of the Mediterranean in the
afternoons.
The pine-clad Taurus Mountains sweep down to the
sparkling clear sea forming an irregular coastline of rocky headlands,
secluded coves, little bays and long sandy beaches. The stunning beauty
of Antalya (which is the region stretching from Kemer to Gazipasa)
moved Kemal Ataurk, founder of modern Turkey, to say, "Without doubt, Antalya is the most beautiful place in the world."

Wherever you go in the country you'll be sure of a warm and friendly
welcome. Hospitality has been perfected to a fine art by the Turks and
the words "Hos Geldiniz" -which literally means 'Your coming brings
pleasure'- will ring frequently in your ears. There's also far more to
Turkish food than kebabs, with local restaurants serving a large and
varied selection of delicious dishes, at exceptionally reasonable
prices. Typically, a meal starts with a selection of meze - small,
mouth-watering starters, such as stuffed peppers, mild white cheese,
tender calamari, octopus salad and traditional deep-fried pastries. In
true Turkish style these appetisers are washed down with an aniseed
spirit, known as raki, although there are also some excellent local
wines.
