Yal was born in Turkey but moved across to Scotland when he was still a "wee bairn". He went to school in Glasgow and studied at Stirling University's School of Management, where he was awarded a BA Honours degree in Marketing and Psychology. After a career in media and marketing in London, Yal set up his first company at age 26. He sold this company in 2001 to a Media plc and worked as a publishing consultant until he moved across to Turkey in 2003. He is fluent in both Turkish and English.

Here he explains in his own words how he went from being a "media mogul" in The UK to a successful property broker and entrepreneur in Turkey:

"I came across to Turkish Riviera resort of Alanya with my wife Sarah in 2003 with a view to investing in property in the region. We were so impressed with the area that we invested in not one but two villas - one on the hills of Kargicak, near Alanya and one in the golfing region of Belek.

On the 6th day of our inspection trip, having just agreed to spend more than twice our budget, we were sitting on the beach in Alanya. It was a fine sunny November day (the temperature was 26C) and we made a decision that would alter the course of our lives forever. By February 2004 I had moved over to Alanya to publish a travel magazine for the region.

The constructor who was building my villa offered to help me and I was using his office while preparing the magazine. Even while I was working on the travel guide I was being exposed to the fast developing property market and could see the massive potential it had.
